Melissa M. Peraza

Beginning Pilates Online

Prepare to learn the basic building blocks of Pilates with this online guided mat-based class hosted by Master Pilates Instructor, Melissa M. Peraza. For the first few minutes we’ll start by introducing ourselves and sharing how our bodies are feeling and moving. Next we’ll lay our bodies on the mat and flow through a series of warm-up exercises to bring our focus and attention to our practice. We’ll then move through a series of exercises that will strengthen our backs, abs, and hips through the ab series, side-leg series, breast stroke preps and more.

Through a combination of breath work and body movement, you may experience:

– A more calm state of mind
– Energized and ease of concentration
– More range of movement through your joints
– Release of stress and tension from the neck, back and shoulders
– Working muscles you didn’t even know you had

We will end with gentle stretches in a variety of positions to shift our awareness back to our daily lives with more focus and energy.

My Background

I bring over 15 years of teaching, coaching, and rehabilitation experience to my practice. Starting in athletic training rooms and physical therapy clinics, I soon recognized that every body, whether athletic or elderly, is extremely unique and in need of a highly personalized exercise program. My passion for movement combined with my love of physics and biomechanics led me to a path of service and lifelong learning.

I work with people of all ages, specializing in injury prevention and rehabilitation, foot and spinal mechanics, and athletic performance training. My enthusiasm for health and wellness is driven by the success of my clients achieving their goals and improving their quality of life. With a systematic, hands-on approach to exercise, I aim to give my clients the tools they need to minimize risk of injury and to progress and maintain their physical health over time.
